Our elongated country is a beautiful
holiday country, something foreign travel writers increasingly seem to be
eyeing. Holidays in Norway are praised as an exotic experience. The contrasts
and variations are many, and each part of the country has its own uniqueness.
So why not rent a car in Norway in the part of the country you want to explore?
Then you do not have to drive all the way from home.
You can find car rental in Norway in
all cities and at most airports. When booking through Expedia, you have a lot

Here are some suggestions for road
sections in Norway where there is every reason to consider. You will find
hotels in Norway in all these places.
National tourist routes
Statens Veivesen has started a
project where as many as 18 road sections across the country have been given
the status of National Tourist Roads. These are roads where beautiful
landscapes can be experienced from the car seat. Most stretches are found in
Western Norway, from Jæren in the south to Kårvåg in the north. Otherwise, there
are National Tourist Routes along the Helgeland coast in Nordland, in Lofoten,
Andøya and Senja, as well as at Havøysund and Varanger in Finnmark.
One of these stretches, the Atlantic The road has been named the world's finest road by the British newspaper Guardian,
and many foreign tourists come by plane to Norway to experience it. The roughly
8-kilometer long road follows county road 64 between Vevangin Eide and Kårvåg
on Averøy and consists of eight bridges that cross islets and reefs in the sea
gap. Both tourists and locals like to use the bridges to fish for cod from, and
one of the bridges is actually specially made as a fishing bridge.
Aurlandsfjellet
Most tourist roads are just as nice
no matter which direction you drive in, but for the road over Aurlandsfjellet,
you should start in Lærdal and drive towards Aurlandsvangen, ie from the high
mountains and down towards the fjord. This stretch of road is legendary for its
dizzying viewpoints, with large panoramas of mountains and fjords, and
landscapes that appear completely untouched. Parts of the road are closed in
winter, but from Aurlandsvangen and up to Stegastein - with the most
spectacular vantage point along the road - it is open all year round.
Trollstigen
Trollstigvegen is without a doubt
Norway's most legendary stretch of road, and there are not a few drivers who
have driven with their hearts in their throats here. For several hundred years,
this road has been important for traffic between Valldal and Ã…ndalsnes, first
as a path and riding road, until work on the road itself began in 1916. This
stretch is still more dramatic than most people are used to - and the view is
formidable. In several places, viewpoints have been created - with names such
as Ørnesvingen, Gudbrandsjuvet, and Flydalsjuvet - with views of lush valleys,
sheltered settlements, and steep mountains. Sucking in the stomach is
guaranteed.
